WHY I CARE!
The Power of Print: How a School Newspaper Changed My Life
I was never one for school clubs, but something about joining my high school newspaper as a photographer just felt right. Little did I know, it would change the entire course of my life. What started as snapping photos quickly led to illustrating, and before I knew it, I had fallen in love with design. Becoming the design editor of my school’s newspaper, winning awards for my designs and due to my design editor position, landing my first real graphic design job as a 17 year old in high school gave me the confidence to pursue this passion as a lifelong career.
Working on the school newspaper didn’t just shape my skills, it connected me to my community in a way I had never experienced before. I learned the power of storytelling, the weight of truth, and the incredible feeling of seeing my work printed in ink, unchangeable, permanent, a piece of history. This project is more than just design. It’s a love letter to print journalism, to the newspaper that shaped me, and to the belief that good design can help save what matters!
